Destiny 2‘s new gun the Prometheus Lens has reportedly “broken” its Crucible, with the power of the Curse of Osiris Exotic weapon causing major balancing issues in the game’s PvP.
The Prometheus Lens is only available through the Curse of Osiris expansion, with it appearing as a random drop for players of the new DLC. The new rifle is made unstoppable thanks to a combination of its absurd stats and perks, which sees it utilize its Prismatic Inferno ability in order to generate a damaging heat field that grows while the weapon continues to fire. This ensures that those who hold the trigger for longer do more damage, while any kills earned with the weapon return a fraction of its magazine back to the gun, meaning that the player can keep on firing at more enemies.
Since its introduction to Destiny 2, the Prometheus Lens has become the most sought after weapon in the game and has garnered a ton of criticism from the community. While Destiny 2‘s PvP mode isn’t littered with those making use of the gun right now, as players are still working towards obtaining it, it’s only a matter of time before the Crucible becomes overrun with the Exotic.

Destiny 2 is one of the biggest multiplayer games out there, so such a broken weapon making its way into the game and effectively ruining its PvP mode is surprising. Though Bungie has prior history of bringing highly overpowered guns into the original Destiny and being forced to issue various hot fixes, that history is repeating itself with Destiny 2 is frustrating for those who enjoy the game’s competitive modes, as playing them without the Prometheus Lens in their inventory ensures that they’ll always be on the backfoot.
Bungie has yet to address the issue with the Prometheus Lens, though we imagine that it will be nerfed in the near future. In the meantime, if you want to keep a hold of your sanity it’s probably best that you stay away from the Crucible right now.
