Ubisoft has unveiled the new Far Cry 5 story trailer and, hoo boy, is it creepy. If you like burning graveyards and seriously NSFW imagery then step right this way…
The trailer, which you can watch below, clocks in at 3 minutes and showcases the fanatical Joseph Seed and his doomsday cult Project at Eden’s Gate (you might need to hire an agency to make the name it a bit catchier, Joe). There are all kinds of things going down: hideous lynchings, combine harvester-based homicides and, as we’ve come to expect from the series, lots and lots of explosions.
This being a story trailer, we not only get re-acquainted with the villainous Joseph Seed, but also his brothers, the Heralds, Jacob (the guy with all of the armed police) and the bible-toting Pastor Jeffries, who appears to have swapped the dog collar for dog tags, the way he’s wielding that firearm.
While Far Cry 5 isn’t out until March 27, 2018, the trailer does a great job of whetting the appetite as we hurtle our way towards Hope County’s very own warped slice of Americana. Before the focus was on mayhem, but the sinister undertones in this trailer might see Mr. Seed give Far Cry 3’s Vaas a run for his money.
It’ll be interesting to see how the game copes with presenting you with clearly mature themes — and downright disturbing echoes of America’s past history – one minute and then charging you with going HAM with a rocket launcher the next. Grand Theft Auto just about walks the tightrope whereas Far Cry isn’t always too keen on making things as subtle.
Either way, this new Far Cry 5 story trailer has hammered the game home as one of 2018’s most-anticipated releases. After all, who doesn’t want to shoot a man while they’re being attacked by rabid dogs?
