This just in, EA is serious about making games awful for everyone.
A report by The New York Times alleges that Electronic Arts has been interested in purchasing Valve and are very serious about the offer. The largest buyout price supposedly hit around $1 billion which may seem sizeable but is less than half of the company's total equity, and even less than Gabe Newell's net worth.
Speaking of Mr. Newell, he has no interest in such a deal—thankfully—and went as far as to say that it's more likely that Valve would "disintegrate" before EA would get a piece of the cake.
It's not surprising that one of the world's largest video game corporations is interested in one of the most intuitive. Valve's positive reputation and constructive communication with its fanbase are certainly values that EA would love to obtain.
In addition, EA's Origin platform has had trouble capturing a market despite offering major exclusives such as Mass Effect 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Merging the platform with its biggest rival, Steam, would make things a lot easier.
Truthfully, such a buyout would be a great thing for EA, but let's hope it never happens.
