Monster Hunter World Now Fastest Capcom Game to Ship 6 Million Units

Monster Hunter World is now officially the fastest Capcom game in the company’s history to ship six million units. That number includes digital download sales.

Impressively, the game managed to reach this milestone with only its PS4 and Xbox One versions. The PC version has been confirmed by Capcom but a specified release date has yet to be announced. It was only a few days ago that we reported a whopping 1,591,356 units were from the PS4 version alone, according to Media Create sales figures.

The first installment in the long-running franchise debuted over 14 years ago. The Monster Hunter series of games has since amassed a dedicated fan base, cumulatively achieving more than 46 million lifetime units as of February 9th, 2018.

Monster Hunter World players in Japan will have something to look forward to in Spring 2018 as Capcom plans to organize qualifying events in seven areas throughout the country. This will lead to the Monster Hunter World Kariou Playoffs, where the champion will be crowned the best hunter in all of Japan. At the time of writing, no such events have been announced for regions outside of Japan.

Additionally, Capcom is hoping to bolster the value of the Monster Hunter franchise by planning an upcoming Hollywood film adaptation and Monster Hunter: The Real, a theme park ride currently running at Universal Studios Japan.

Monster Hunter World is an action-RPG in which players assume the role of a hunter who slays monsters of all shapes and sizes in a high fantasy setting. With fourteen archetypes of weapons available, players hunt down monsters in quests to obtain loot, which in turn can be used to improve their equipment. It is the first title in the entire franchise to be simultaneously launched worldwide for the PS4 and Xbox One.

We gave it a rating of 4.5 out of 5 in our review, which you can check out over here.
