Fortnite 60fps Console Update Coming “Later This Month”

In its latest “State of Development” update post, Epic Games went into detail about changes that would soon be coming to Fortnite. These range from optimization and service stability tweaks, to a full-blown Fortnite 60fps console option.

First, let’s touch on the boring, yet very important, stability improvements. Epic Games described the problems being faced, and how they will be fixed:

SERVICE STABILITY ISSUES

We have changed our release plans & processes to help improve quality of client builds, and scrambled people to make traction on backend scalability by any means possible.

ONGOING OPTIMIZATIONS

When you play some Battle Royale, we want the time from when you’re in the lobby to when you’re in the action to be as short as possible. We’re continuing to work on load time improvements to help with that. You want a smoother in-game experience, and we agree!

We are testing and bug fixing improvements that will deliver better level streaming with less hitches.

MATCHMAKING IMPROVEMENTS

We are working on changes to matchmaking that are aimed at creating matches with a more balanced distribution of skill.

Then there’s the Fortnite 60fps console support. What’s surprising, is that it’s not only the souped-up PS4 Pro and Xbox One X which will be experiencing the boost up to 60fps; the standard PS4 and Xbox One will be running smoothly, too! Epic Games is aiming to release this support “later this month.”

I imagine console players will be ecstatic to hear this news. After all, 60fps in a shooter makes for the best possible experience. It’s amazing to hear that Epic Games has the ability to introduce such a huge change to a game like this.
