Smash Bros Switch Will Be Released in 2018, According to Insider

Smash Bros Switch is heading to Nintendo’s flagship console before the year is out, according to insider Emily Rogers.

Rogers, who has a great track record of reveals, is quick to point out over on ResetEra that, while a Smash Bros title with “brand-new” content is coming to Switch in 2018, it may not be a full sequel. Something in the vein of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Mario Tennis Aces is a distinct possibility, especially as, according to Rogers, some of the existing Wii U and 3DS content will be “re-worked.”

Smash Bros is a series that is no stranger to remixing past content, so here’s hoping that the arrival of the franchise on Switch heralds a fresh release rather than serving up the reheated leftovers of the previous generation.

If (and there’s nothing official from Nintendo, let’s be clear on that) Smash Bros Switch is scheduled to hit stores in 2018, it’ll be interesting to see how the big N approach it. A hype-train to the extent of Brawl seems out of the question with just over 10 months left of the year, but Nintendo’s willingness to snuggle up to more and more third-party developers, including Ubisoft for Mario + Rabbids, indicates that we could be seeing more characters away from Nintendo’s franchises being added to the roster. That can only be a good thing – and it could be the most stacked Smash Bros yet.

Be it, in Rogers’ words, something akin to a sequel or a “deluxe definitive edition port”, it sure sounds like Smash Bros Switch is a very real possibility. It’s time to get excited, people. What new characters and levels would you want to see?
