Overwatch fans are in for a treat these upcoming weeks because fan favorite Widowmaker is getting a new Kerrigan skin to celebrate Starcraft‘s 20th anniversary! While some will be quick to point out that Widowmaker’s new skin looks suspiciously like her recent one, Nova, I for one am not going to be complaining about Overwatch’s taste when it comes to skins of our favorite sniper.
While March 31 is the exact date of StarCraft’s anniversary, Blizzard has stated that they will be celebrating throughout the month. So get ready to party StarCraft fans, because rewards will be ready for you to snatch up simply for logging into the respective games, as indicated by Blizzard. For Overwatch fans, you’ll be rewarded with the Widowmaker Kerrigan skin as soon as you log into Overwatch between the 6th of March and the 3rd of April.
Most Starcraft fans will already know that Widowmaker’s new skin is based on Sarah Kerrigan before she transformed into the Queen of Blades. Sarah Kerrigan was a psychic terran female who began her career as a Confederate ghost, later becoming the second-in-command of the Sons of Korhal before being captured and turned into the scary Queen we all know and love. Considering Widowmaker’s own history, maybe the two have more in common than we realized?
As mentioned above, many will be wondering why Widowmaker has a new skin that looks so similar to her newest. Considering the physical likeness of some of the female characters in the game, Overwatch may be putting themselves under fire once more by their audience.
Regardless, the StarCraft event looks to be one that will add to other Blizzard games outside of Overwatch, such as StarCraft: Remastered, StarCraft 2, Diablo 3, World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, and Hearthstone.
Whether more skins will be added to the Overwatch roster remains to be seen but if you’re a big fan like me then keep your fingers crossed!
Come on Jeff, give me the Sombra sci-fi skin I deserve…
