Tomb Raider Original Trilogy Remasters Coming to Steam

The original  Tomb Raider trilogy will be receiving remasters on the PC. Realtech VR announced the news via Twitter, with the games set to come to Steam. The Tomb Raider remasters will be based on the mobile versions, which are also available on Steam. Owners of the original DOS Tomb Raider games on Steam will be happy to learn that they will receive the newly-remastered games for free when they release.

Newly-added features to the Tomb Raider remasters include a new 3D engine, which was reconstructed for the most recent OpenGL. This will allow the remasters to have better post-processing effects, including better ambient occlusion and shadows. These can be turned off at any time and players can even opt for the legacy texture pack for some old-school classic effects. Those who use other operating systems like Windows 7 and Windows UWP need not worry because the remasters will still support them.

Additionally, there will be proper support for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers. The remasters will also include the DLC packs Unfinished Business and The Golden Mask, along with bug fixes and further improvements by Realtech VR. Last but not least, the remasters will support OpenVR.

The developer has not revealed any specific release dates or windows for the Tomb Raider remasters. However, they did mention that the first two games have already been completed and they are currently working on the third one.

We sincerely hope that Realtech VR’s Tomb Raider remasters will not turn out like the recently released PC port of Chrono Trigger. That was also based on a mobile port, instead of the original version. With bugs and terrible UI, head on over here to read more about why the Chrono Trigger PC port on Steam is terrible.
