A new listing on Amazon Canada has recently been spotted, implying that a new Splinter Cell game will be released sometime in 2018. Splinter Cell Blacklist was the last installment of the Splinter Cell franchise to be released over half a decade ago in 2013.
No specific details can be seen on the Amazon listing page. The placeholder states the product’s name as “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 2018“, with no platforms listed. However, the item model number definitely suggests a PC version as well as a possible unveiling at E3 2018 in June later this year.
Clicking on “Ubisoft” on said Amazon listing redirects us to more of their official products like Far Cry 5 and Assassin’s Creed Origins, amongst others. Therefore, it is probable that Ubisoft itself was involved with posting the Splinter Cell 2018 game listing on Amazon Canada.
The Splinter Cell series has often been compared to the equally iconic Metal Gear Solid franchise, with clear similarities between both the former and latter’s protagonist Sam Fisher and Solid Snake, respectively. The first Splinter Cell game was released in 2002 for the PS2, Xbox, PC, Mac, GameCube and GameBoy Advance.
A few years ago, we reported that the Splinter Cell franchise was originally pitched as a James Bond game. It then turned into one of the most recognizable stealth game series when the initial pitch was refused and Ubisoft Montreal began adapting the Tom Clancy license into the project.
Ubisoft probably left the Splinter Cell franchise in the corner for a bit after Splinter Cell Blacklist had lower sales than what the publisher expected. We think that it’s definitely a great time now for Sam Fisher to make his triumphant return in the current generation, especially after Metal Gear Survive had less than stellar sales figures in Japan and UK after it was launched last month.
