Fortnite has managed to break two different YouTube records involving games in the history of the platform. The game continues to be a worldwide phenomenon with no signs of slowing down. YouTube Director and Global Head of VR/AR and Gaming Ryan Wyatt recently tweeted that Fortnite now officially holds the record for being the game with the most uploaded videos in a single month. That is truly an impressive achievement, even though Wyatt did not explicitly reveal the exact number of uploaded videos.
Wyatt also commented that “gaming has never been bigger on YouTube than it is today, and that’s a statistical fact.” The other record broken by Fortnite was for the title of the biggest ever single live gaming stream on YouTube. A Spanish YouTuber with more than 28 million subscribers, known as elrubiusOMG, initiated a worldwide Fortnite event on March 25, 2018.
That Fortnite event involved 99 other participants from YouTube and lasted over three hours. It managed to draw in more than a whopping 1.1 million viewers, which is the highest amount of concurrent viewers a gaming live stream has ever achieved on YouTube. However, the highest ever live stream record for a video on YouTube is still held by the Red Bull Stratos jump back in 2012, which drew in over 8 million viewers.
Additionally, that also means the Fortnite live stream by elrubiusOMG, whose real name is actually Rubén Doblas Gundersen, has one-upped Drake and Ninja’s record-breaking Twitch stream. We recently reported that the duo’s Fortnite stream managed to amass over 600,000 concurrent viewers, which still remains the biggest ever live stream on the Twitch platform.
In other related news, we also reported that Fortnite CEO Tim Sweeney recently spoke at GDC 2018 about why cross-play between all platforms, including the PS4 and Xbox One, is inevitable. He referred to Fornite as being one of the games which are establishing a new model for the entire games industry, where barriers between platforms will no longer exist.
