Sea of Thieves Breaks Two Records for Microsoft and Xbox

Microsoft and Rare have announced that Sea of Thieves has already managed to break two records for the Xbox One and Windows 10. It was only recently released just over a week ago on March 20th, 2018 for the Xbox One and PC.

Rare Head of Studio Craig Duncan revealed the milestones via Xbox Wire. Sea of Thieves is now officially the fastest selling first-party intellectual property (IP) for this generation of Microsoft exclusives. That’s not all as it also managed to become the best selling Microsoft Studios first-party title on the Windows 10 platform.

Impressively, Duncan unveiled the statistics, which states that more than one million players played Sea of Thieves on launch day alone. After only one week since its release, the game has amassed over a whopping two million players.

However, he did not specify whether the two million players included those who played the game through the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. The numbers also revealed that more than 100,000 players have streamed Sea of Thieves since launch, with roughly 10 million hours of the game watched over the course of one week.

We already knew that Sea of Thieves has been doing great sales-wise since it debuted at the top of the sales chart in the UK despite the game being available on Xbox Game Pass as well. However, the game’s overwhelming success also brought with it several unpredictable issues as Rare struggled to support the game amidst the huge demand.

Fortunately, Rare has been working hard post-launch and rolled out the update just yesterday on March 27th, 2018. We recently reported on the details of the improvements which arrived in yesterday’s update, which included fixes on several large issues like player rewards being delayed and more.

In other news, cheaters have been exploiting a hack in the game, which allowed them to fire their weapons without aiming and making enemy players visible even through walls. In our review, we gave Sea of Thieves a rating of a 2.5 out of 5.
