Far Cry 5 Becomes Fastest Selling Far Cry Game Ever in the UK

Far Cry 5 is barely a week old and it has already managed to break the record for being the fastest selling Far Cry game ever in the UK. It’s the first bonafide hit game this year since Monster Hunter World took the world by storm back in late January.

Far Cry 5 is now the most successful game launch for the thirteenth week of any year, overcoming the previous record holder, which was Bioshock Infinite over five years ago. The PS4 version of the game is officially the sixth biggest launch of any Ubisoft game on a single format in the UK, according to GamesIndustry.biz, Impressively, these sales figures only take into account the physical retail units and exclude digital sales.

Due to the immense success of Far Cry 5‘s debut launch, the Microsoft exclusive Sea of Thieves falls from the top of the UK charts, grabbing the third spot. It suffered a 52% drop in the number of units sold, according to the data. FIFA 18 shoots up to second place, with a 61% increase in sales figures while Mario Kart 8: Deluxe races to fourth place.

Meanwhile, PUBG jumps to fifth place after last week’s placing at number twelve in the UK charts. It looks like more people purchased games suit for multiplayer, like FIFA 18, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and PUBG, probably to spend some quality time gaming with friends and family over the long Easter weekend.

In other related news, Ubisoft initially announced the contents of the Far Cry 5 Season Pass back in early February. It contains three unique DLC adventures and a copy of Far Cry 3: Classic Edition. Last week, Ubisoft revealed more details regarding its post-launch plans for Far Cry 5. The developer explained about its upcoming DLC for Season Pass holders and the new Far Cry Arcade feature.

Far Cry 5 is developed by Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto. It was originally released for the PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 27th, 2018. In our review, we gave it a rating of 3.5 out of 5.
