Dragon Quest fans in the West were ecstatic last year when they learned that Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age would officially receive an English localization. However, fans have been wondering whether the game’s content would be the same as the Japanese version. Square Enix has now assuaged these fears, confirming that it will deliver the exact same game to Western players.
Speaking to Dualshockers, Dragon Quest XI Producer Hokuto Okamoto said that none of the original Japanese content will be cut or removed for the Western version. Some of the dialogue may provide slightly different meanings after going through localization but the content will not be changed.
Long-time Dragon Quest fans will be glad to know that the classic “puff-puff” move is returning in Dragon Quest XI. It will be present in the Western version as well. The “puff-puff” action is a mainstay of Akira Toriyama’s creations, where attractive women use their bodies to distract people. Okamoto also pointed out that the “Magic Slot” feature remains in the Western version. It’s based on the pachinko gambling machines in Japan, which are similar to slot machines in the Western casinos.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be released for the PS4 and PC on September 4th, 2018. Although the Japanese version of the game was also released for the Nintendo 3DS, there will not be a Western localization for that platform. They will have to settle for the Japanese version or re-play the still-great Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, which was originally released back in 2009.
