Is it possible for a game to be perfect? Reviews for Santa Monica Studio’s newest game, God of War, hasn’t even been out for 24 hours and yet it looks as though it’ll be the top rated PS4 exclusive of all time. Some are hailing it as the greatest game of all time, while others are saying that it is Sony’s answer to Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wilds. Regardless of what you may think of God of War as a franchise, it’s obvious that the gaming world doesn’t just like the new game but are in a little bit in love with it. We can’t really blame them for that, even our very own Jason Faulkner gave the perfect score to God of War. Don’t believe us? Check the review out for yourself!
Of course, there’s still the chance that it’ll be knocked off its pedestal as there are still future reviews needed to be added to Metacritic, but even if the scores do lower God of War’s score, it can’t be denied that this is a PS4 exclusive fans would be silly to miss out on. Here’s just a sampling of what other outlets are saying about the new (and improved) God of War.
USGamer (5/5)
“This is how you do a reboot. After Kratos lost his way, Sony Santa Monica has set the God of War on a new path. A more measured, nuanced character, a great supporting cast, excellent combat, and some of the best graphics in a PlayStation 4 game to-date, add up to a winner.”
Polygon (10/10)
“Some die-hard fans may fear this isn’t really God of War. I suppose they’re right. It’s even better.”
IGN (10/10)
“God of War has so much to offer, and you’ll notice I’ve tried to remain as vague as possible in telling you about all of it. That’s not because God of War hinges its whole structure on a twist, or a gameplay trick you’ll never see coming—it doesn’t. But what it does offer is a vibrant, fascinating world packed to the brim with secrets I’m still uncovering, centered around a tale that revolutionizes a one-note character.”
DualShockers (10/10)
“Once mastered, God of War’s combat is one of the most rewarding I have tried in a long time. Kratos becomes a hurricane of death and destruction, blocking, shield bashing, slicing, dicing, spinning around and throwing his axe at an enemy further away, while pummeling closer monsters with punches and kicks, and then recalling the weapon to catch two more draugr in the back, before going in for one of the several spectacular finishers. It’s fast, complex, addictive, and exhilarating, but I never once felt like I wasn’t in control.”
