Rumor: Uncharted 5 Could Become a Reality After Sony Builds New San Diego Studio

Sony has recently posted a new job listing, which states that the company is building a new game development team in San Diego. More interesting is that this studio will be partnering with Visual Arts Service Group (VASG), which is the very same studio responsible for contributing to iconic PlayStation game franchises like Uncharted, Death Stranding, God of War and more, and that it could also be working on a mysterious project alongside Naughty Dog.

“This high visibility project is being developed in collaboration with a major Sony development studio,” the job listing reads. Sony is also specifically looking for someone with “previous experience shipping a 3rd person action game” and “5+ years of systems design experience in either single or multiplayer 3D action games.”

Additionally, a recent post on ResetEra revealed that the LinkedIn profile of a PlayStation employee living in the San Diego area mentions an unannounced project being worked on with Naughty Dog and Santa Monica. This lends further credence to the possibility that a new Uncharted game is in development, maybe even Uncharted 5.

The last Uncharted game to be released was Uncharted The Lost Legacy, a spin-off that focused on the adventures of side characters Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross. The Uncharted franchise remains one of PlayStation’s most reliable exclusive IPs, and it’s going strong even after celebrating its tenth-anniversary last year.

The job listing also states: “Though currently unannounced, we have a clear vision and plan to release. The new game development team will leverage our existing expertise and premier talent, guaranteeing a high visual quality bar for the title.” After The Last of Us Part 2, announcing an Uncharted 5 would certainly maintain the momentum that Sony and PlayStation have with its incredible exclusives. The most recent example would be God of War, to which we gave a perfect score in our review.
