Isaac, best-known from his titular role in The Binding of Isaac, is joining the roster of upcoming fighting game Blade Strangers. The game developed by Studio Saizensen is a cross-over explosion of characters from all of the games that they’ve made, as well as all games from their publisher Nicalis. This is why we’ll be able to kick ass as Isaac, as well as Cave Story‘s Quote and Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt 2.
Isaac is usually found eternally sobbing while trying to avoid an untimely demise by the hands of monsters lurking in his God-fearing mother’s basement in The Binding of Isaac. But it looks like he packs more of a punch than many of us expected, by the looks of the character announcement trailer Nicalis Tweeted out last night. As well as dishing out blows mostly with his head and making use of his iconic tear projectiles, he can also sprout angelic wings and blow away his opponent with a beam of pure heavenly energy.

And those opponents are quite the varied bunch too. The roster is comprised of characters from all of Studio Saizensen’s games like action RPG Code of Princess EX and platformer Sayonara Umihara Kawase. The studio have also been given access to games published by Nicalis, so we’ll also be able to both play and fight Quote and Curly Brace from Cave Story, Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, and a whole host of other characters that have yet to be announced.
There’s plenty of speculation online about who might be added next. Will we see Ash, the small black blob from The End is Nigh? What about Ittle and Tippsie from Ittle Dew 2+? Perhaps even something very left-field, like a horrifying and anamorphic version of a vehicle from Redout or 90’s Super GP? Only time will tell.
