Niantic has announced that the cute Alola versions of the Pokemon from the Kanto region will be coming to Pokemon Go soon. Alola originated in the Pokemon Sun and Moon games as a completely new region in the Pokemon world. Instead of introducing new Pokemon like in every other region, it features the Alolan variant of already-existing Pokemon.
In a news post on its official site earlier this morning, Niantic called on players to “get ready for some of the Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region to appear in their Alolan forms.” However, the company has not revealed which specific Alolan Pokemon will appear in the game.
Pokemon Go Alola Versions: When will they arrive?
The only piece of information we have is that these Alolan variants will “make their way to Pokemon Go in the coming weeks.” That means players will not have to wait long to go out and start catching these unique variants of the Pokemon you already know and love.
With Pokemon Go Fest 2018 looming on the horizon, Niantic is sure to ramp up the hype surrounding the game as the event inches closer. After the disaster that was the Pokemon Go Fest in 2017, the company will have to make sure that this year’s events in Germany and the US are exactly as they’ve been described: “a unique and immersive gameplay experience not seen in any of Niantic’s previous live events.”
In other related news, newly-appointed President of Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa recently revealed that he plans to develop the company’s mobile division even further in the future. He cites Pokemon Go as an example but admits that its success will be difficult to replicate, as he said: “Pokemon Go, which transformed the story and gameplay for the smartphone, became a huge realization. I can’t say that there are any that are like that among mobile games now in development.”
