It looks like there might be a soon-announced Crackdown 3 delay, as Amazon Spain cancels all pre-orders of the game. This comes just days after Phil Spencer tweeted out that the game had a to-be-confirmed release date. We’ve not heard anything official about expected delays, but the cancellations suggest that it might be around the corner.
Crackdown 3 has been known about since 2014 when a new Crackdown game was first announced at E3 2014 as an Xbox One exclusive (now also set for PC through the Microsoft Store) with official confirmation that the title would be Crackdown 3 at Gamescom 2015. It was used in its early days to show off new cloud-based technology developed for the Xbox One by Cloudgine that would bring fully-destructible environments to the game’s multiplayer. There were a few tech demos, both at E3 2014 and at Gamescom 2015 giving us a look at how the technology worked, with destruction in one player’s city impacting another player’s city.
Since then we’ve heard little outside of continued delays. On May 25, Phil Spencer tweeted about Crackdown 3‘s status, saying, “We have a plan and team is locked in on their date. We will talk about it more upcoming but wait won’t be too long.” This led many people to believe we’d finally see the game soon, but just today Amazon Spain canceled all pre-orders of the game. This usually happens when a game is about to be delayed, so it’s likely that we’ll see yet another Crackdown 3 delay pretty soon, probably during E3 in two weeks’ time.
Adding further credence to the likelihood of another Crackdown 3 delay, Windows Central Editor Jez Corden tweeted about hearing internal rumors on the subject. He said in a response to someone’s concern that the game had been canceled, “Delayed out of 2018 is my guess, based on what I’ve been hearing from a few places. But who knows, gonna ask MS for comment.”
