West of Loathing Releases on Switch

Get your revolvers at the ready and securely fasten your cowboy hat, because indie game West of Loathing is available now for Switch on the Nintendo eShop. Developer Asymmetric promise “salacious stories, silly side quests, and stupid walking,” in the humorous adventure RPG inspired by Quest for Glory and Paper Mario.

West of Loathing has been available on Steam since August 10 last year. It’s left quite the impression on fans and critics since its release, with a 10/10 rating and overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam and a 4.5/5 on GOG. In it, you assume the role of a stick-person in the wild west of the Kingdom of Loathing universe, exploring its sprawling open world encountering demon cows, snake-infested gulches, and punching all manner of characters wearing cowboy hats, be they alive or undead. To quote Asymmetric’s press release, “some of whom are good, many of whom are bad, and a few of whom are ugly.”

It’s a game built on a solid foundation of cheesy comedy. As regular Game Revolution readers will know, we’re huge fans of dad jokes and wordplay. And that’s exactly what you’ll find in West of Loathing, along with “liberal use of the Oxford comma” which is bound to generate some hilarity to no end. To encounter that comedy (and to play the game at all) you’ll have to choose a class. There are a few options, like a wise Beanslinger, a charismatic Snake Oiler, or even a brutal and combat-efficient Cow Puncher.

What’s more, if you’re still a fan of physical copies of games like I am, Asymmetric have collaborated with Limited Run Games to produce a limited edition cartridge version of West of Loathing for the Switch release. If you want to find out when this becomes available, you can sign up for Limited Run Games’ newsletter at their website.
