Red Faction Guerrilla Remastered Release Date Announced

Red Faction Guerrilla Remastered, or Re-Mars-tered as its officially called, finally has a release date, according to an announcement by THQ Nordic. The remastered version of the 2009 third-person shooter will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on July 3, 2018. Additionally, owners of the original game on Steam will be able to download the remastered version for free.

The remastered version of the game will include a slew of upgrades including fully reworked graphics (including textures and graphics features such as specular maps) as well as improved shadow, lighting, shaders, and postprocessing.

Those who own a capable PC, a PlayStation 4 Pro, or and Xbox One X will also be able to experience the game in 4K resolutions. For those playing on consoles, here are the expected framerates for each system at their respective resolutions:

  • Xbox One: 900p @ 60 FPS
  • Xbox One X: 1800p @ 60 FPS or 4K @ 30 FPS
  • PlayStation 4: 1080p @ 60 FPS
  • PlayStation 4 Pro: 1500p @60 FPS or 4K @ 30 FPS

Red Faction Guerrilla was originally released in 2009 by THQ Nordic and is the third game in the Red Faction series. It featured open-world guerrilla warfare with an emphasis on destructible environments such as buildings, cover, and other structures. The game also featured both online and offline multiplayer, each with their own set of game modes.

Set in the year 2125 on a terraformed Mars, players take on the role of Alec Mason, a mining engineer turned freedom fighter, in a battle to liberate martians from the oppressive Earth Defence Force (EDF). Players get to fight alongside other members of the reformed Red Faction in several missions to ultimately drive out the EDF from Mars.
