A new Rage 2 trailer has dropped at E3 2018, with id Software and Avalanche Studios’ next open-world FPS receiving some brand new details alongside gameplay footage. The game’s developers appeared onstage to run through some story beats, revealing how it will star Walker, the last ranger of the wasteland, as its protagonist.
Rage 2 is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which 80% of the world’s population has been depleted. Left orphaned and abandoned in a world devastated by a cataclysmic asteroid, Rage 2 blends DOOM-esque fast and frenetic gunplay with vehicular sections reminiscent of Avalanche’s Mad Max tie-in game.
It features some giant boss fights, with Walker activating various abilities to take down his rivals, including a time jump that can transport him ahead of his enemies, and a significant strength boost. He also carries around a particularly neat boomerang weapon, that flies behind enemies before lopping off their heads.
The game’s set to be released in spring 2019, with it having previously been leaked by Walmart Canada in a listing ahead of its showing at E3 2018. Rage 2 kicked off the Bethesda E3 2018 showcase, with it being introduced by singer Andrew WK, who kicked off proceedings with a brief musical show.
