Platinum Games studio head finds it 'hard to get excited' for new consoles

Nier Automata Creator Wants It on Switch, but It’s Not in the Works Just Yet

NieR Automata Creator, Yoko Taro, is best known for his quirky, but lovely personality. He adopts to wear a mask of No.7’s face to keep his face hidden from cameras most times and is well-known for his self-deprecating humor. Recently he spoke out about the Battlefield 5 controversy, laughing in the face of ‘historical inaccuracy’ fans and referencing Japan’s open-mindedness on what they include in their games.

However, this time he’s returned his sights onto speaking about his own game, NieR Automata which was revealed to be coming to Xbox One during Microsoft’s E3 conference. And while there are surely a few disappointed fans that are sad it isn’t coming to the Nintendo Switch, there is still the possibility of it happening in the future.

During an official Square Enix E3 stream, director Yoko Taro, producer Yosuke Saito, and designer Takahisa Taura appeared briefly. The three talked a little about the Xbox One port, before Taro then asked Saito when NieR Automata was coming to Switch. It was a very light-hearted atmosphere, so it is possible that Taro could be kidding around, though anything is possible.

Taro said, as translated by Nintendo Everything, “Well, when are we getting the Switch version Saito-san?”

“Well, it’s not all on me to decide because PlatinumGames do take painstaking time to develop for each console,” Saito replied.

Taro then became playful and started to demand that NieR Automata be put on the Nintendo Switch, which Takahisa Taura also voiced he wanted too. At that point, Saito said something that fans of the series who want it on Switch might find interesting.

“Well, Taura-kun’s Twitter account is shown on the screen here and if everyone asks him for it, then there may be a possibility that it would become a reality,” Saito said, “But even if it does, it might be about two years from now again. See we keep our jobs alive by releasing a little by little.”

There you have it NieR Automata fans. You may get your wish, but not as soon as you may want it to be.
