Ladies, gentlemen and those who would prefer to be referred as neither, hold onto your seats because it has recently been confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have no loading screens. Cyberpunk 2077 loading screens seemed like a possibility when information started to pour out of E3, because after all, with a huge open-world game like this, how could there not be any loading screens? Even The Witcher 3 had some loading screens for some locations. So how is it that CD Projekt Red’s most-hyped game doesn’t?
Unfortunately, that information was not disclosed to us. All we know is that, according to CD Projekt Red’s associate design director, Kyle Rowley, who was answering questions on the game’s official Discord channel, has answered that everything will be seamless. In fact, there will be “no loading screens after the initial load into the game.” Which, if true, leads to some very interesting questions on how that will be possible.
As mentioned above, The Witcher 3 was also rather seamless apart from a few places like Kaer Morhen, Vizimia, White Orchard and Skellige. But while Geralt could run around the Continent as free as he liked most of the time, indoor locations were mostly inaccessible to the player. This is completely different from how Cyberpunk 2077 has been described, which is said to allow players to go anywhere they like, with major tower blocks to explore from their street-level lobbies to their top-floor offices.
There is the possibility that the subway system that we saw in the E3 trailer may be an important cog in the machine to make this no-loading scenario possible, however, we’re unsure how this will hold up as it has been reported that the player has a variety of vehicles to choose from in the game as well.
