Wargaming has announced that the latest version of its free-to-play MMO game World of Tanks, dubbed World of Tanks: Mercenaries, launches exclusively for the PS4 and Xbox One today on June 26th, 2018. It will be the biggest expansion of the game since it was originally released on the Xbox One and PS4 in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Those with World of Tanks already installed on their consoles will receive World of Tanks Mercenaries through a free content update.
According to the press release, World of Tanks Mercenaries takes place in an alternate reality while the original game took place in World War 2. In the new version of the game, the world is a lawless one, filled with endless wars, and with it comes the new Mercenaries nation. The new Mercenaries nation will feature brand new tanks, which will be helmed by unique Mercenary crews. The unique trait shared by Mercenary tanks is that these tanks will be made up of parts scavenged from tanks from other existing nations.
World of Tank Mercenaries: New Tanks And Story Campaign
Initially, five Mercenary tanks will be available at launch starting today. Besides that, World of Tanks Mercenaries will also introduce a new PvE story campaign titled The Heist, which follows a crew of Mercenaries on a mission to steal nuclear material for a client. During their mission, they find themselves in conflict with the combined military might of the United States and the Soviet Union.
Additional content in World of Tanks Mercenaries includes new Multiplayer maps. Wargaming also promises much more post-launch Mercenaries content in the future. The international game developer/publisher is on a roll recently, having announced World of Warships Legends for the PS4 and Xbox One just last week. It looks like the company is finally trying to embrace the console market, as it has mostly been focusing on the PC platform in the past.
