Dota 2 The International 2017

Dota 2 The International Will Be Joined by Elon Musk’s AI Team

Dota 2 The International remains arguably the biggest eSports global competition in the world, especially in terms of having the largest prize pools ever. What makes this year’s competition different than the rest is the participation of non-humans. An AI (artificial intelligence) team will be competing against human beings in August, in what will probably be the beginning of the machine uprising. The AI team is known as OpenAI Five, and it’s coming to show us organics who the superior lifeforms are.

According to the blog post on OpenAI Five’s official site, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company OpenAI is currently working to make sure its team is ready to take on professional gaming teams at the Dota 2 The International 2018. The AI team consists of five neural networks and will be able to compete in a 5v5 match against human players. How will it accomplish this?

The OpenFive AI team plays an unbelievable 180 years worth of games against itself every day. That basically means that the AI team has taught itself everything through self-play. It manages to do this by running on a whopping 256 GPUs and 128,000 CPU cores. There’s a reason why Elon Musk’s OpenAI is trying to build an AI team capable of beating human opponents in games requiring complex strategy.

Dota 2 The Internation 2018: The Reason For AI’s Development

The ultimate goal for OpenAI is to create AI systems with applications outside of games. An AI capable of beating humans in complex games like Dota 2 will be able to “capture the messiness and continuous nature of the real world.” July 28th is when the company will be testing the OpenAI Five team in a match against top players, which will be broadcast live on Twitch.

The 2018 edition of Dota 2 The International looks like it’s going to break even more records. The current prize pool tally is at $15,638,439. Dota 2 The International 2018 will take place at the Rogers Arena in Canada from August 20th to August 25th, 2018. With less than two months left, it remains to be seen if The International 2017’s total prize pool of $24,787,916 will be overtaken.
