Skyrim Switch Mods Aren’t Coming Anytime Soon

Bethesda isn’t actively working on mods for the Skyrim Switch version, according to a recent interview. It’s reportedly something that the studio is interested in, but as it stands, Bethesda’s Switch team are currently focusing on other projects.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Todd Howard was asked follow-up questions over a talk at Gamelab last week where he said that “Skyrim Switch has a big community that we haven’t supported the way we’d like.” It seems that one of the areas that he was referring to was the lack of mod support and the Creation Club for the Skyrim Switch port. We would love to see it happen but it’s not something we’re actively doing,” said Todd.

The primary reasoning behind a lack of action over mod support for Skyrim Switch is that the team Bethesda has put in charge of Switch development is focusing on other projects, primarily Fallout Shelter. “People, they’re on other things. Our Switch group did Fallout Shelter … and that’s done really well. I’m surprised at how well it’s done.” Regarding Skyrim mods, Todd said that “Right now we’re doing nothing.”

Todd is still very happy with how the Creation Club has fared on other consoles, but sees plenty of room for improvement. “We are always looking at ‘How do we get more creators creating great content?’ and ‘How do we make it easy and safe?’ The recent stuff we’ve done on the Bethesda.net side of Fallout 4 and Skyrim connecting to mods on consoles has worked out really really great – it’s way more popular than we ever thought. But we still think there’s a way to go there.”

Something stressed in the Eurogamer interview, and in talking with Geoff Keighley at Gamelab last week, was that mod support for all of Bethesda’s games going forward is always going to be a crucial part of the development process on all platforms, and this includes the upcoming Fallout 76.
