Metal Gear Director Wants to Make a Metroid Movie

Metal Gear Director Jordon Vogt-Roberts, who also directed the well-acclaimed Kong: Skull Island, recently sat down to speak about what makes a good video game movie. Video game movies, after all, are not usually treated with grace by fans for a number of reasons. Sometimes it’s the actors because they don’t just ‘fit’ right, or the director just doesn’t ‘get’ the vision of the game or a thousand other reasons that just leads to a simple statement: you can’t please everyone, especially gamers.

That said, Vogt-Roberts is going to try his best to do just that anyway. It was recently announced that the Metal Gear Solid has finally finished, and despite the obvious bias, Vogt-Roberts feels as though the script is looking incredible already. Yet even though he already has the Metal Gear film to be looking to perfect, that hasn’t stopped the director from looking ahead and wanting to branch out to another video game to make into a film.

Speaking with IGN, Vogt-Roberts mentioned that one other movie he would love to make would be a live-action Metroid. In fact, he even has a pitch ready for it. During the interview, he says, “I have a pitch for a Metroid movie. They’ll never let me. It’s too crazy. It legitimately would be her (Samus) alone. It would be a little bit of her talking to herself.”

“As soon as they introduce other talking characters in those games, to me it loses everything. You put her alone and it’s almost got more to do with the silence of a movie like Drive. Like the quietness. and having it be like a real, intense mood piece, but mixed with sci-fi.”

It’s unfortunate Vogt-Roberts feels that the idea doesn’t seem to fit with what many would want because it sounds like a fascinating idea to us.
