Steel Division 2 Will Have 10v10 Multiplayer and Eastern Front Setting

Eugen Systems has announced that it’s working on Steel Division 2, a sequel to its 2017 World War II strategy game. Steel Division 2 will take place during the Soviet Operation Bagration, and it’ll feature 10 versus 10 player multiplayer as well as a “Dynamic Strategic” turn-based solo campaign.

It’s been a year since Steel Division: Normandy 44, an epic World War II strategy game published by Paradox Interactive, graced PC gamers in 2017. Developer Eugen Systems announced yesterday that a sequel, Steel Division 2, is in the works. They’re pulling out all of the stops for this one, and the game will feature 10 versus 10 multiplayer across 25 sizable maps. You’ll also be able to choose from 18 different divisions, and command over 600 units from both the Red Army and Axis forces.

Steel Division 2 is set during the massive Soviet offensive called Operation Bagration, a summertime operation that occurred in 1944 in the Eastern Front. To accompany this, the game will have a solo mode called the Dynamic Strategic Campaign. Though we don’t yet know any details as to what this will be, we should be expecting more details about the game in general at Gamescom 2018, according to co-founder Alexis Le Dressay.

“We’ve made a lot of improvements to Steel Division 2 based on direct feedback from our most avid fans of Steel Division: Normandy 44,” said Dressay. “The game is a true passion project for us, and we hope players look forward to seeing more as development continues.”

Steel Division 2 will also have a revamped art style, as well as improvements made to the game’s deck building system. In Steel Division: Normandy 44, you assembled a deck of different units and equipment prior to entering a game, and you deployed these units by playing cards from the deck. We don’t know the specifics of how this mechanic has been improved, but Eugen Systems has said that it offers a more “refined player experience.” For the time being, Steel Division 2 does not have an official release date.
