Negan-Tekken-7

Negan From The Walking Dead Is Coming to Tekken 7

In one of the more bizarre crossovers in video game history, Tekken 7 will be getting Negan from AMC’s The Walking Dead as a playable character. The announcement came as part of a trailer Bandai Namco released for the fighting game’s second season of DLC characters at the finals of the game’s EVO tournament. Anna Williams (from Tekken) and Lei Wulong (from Tekken 2) will also be part of the second wave of downloadable characters.

Bandai Namco describes Negan in the description of the video, as such:

“Your eyes do not deceive you, your pounding heart does not betray you; Negan from AMC’s The Walking Dead is making his way into Tekken 7 to deal a world of pain in the Tekken universe. Negan, beloved by fans of The Walking Dead for his charismatic yet sinister demeanor, is ready to destroy all challengers, regardless of their stature in the Tekken universe.”

Rather than the comic book version of Negan, Tekken 7‘s version of the popular character will be based on Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s portrayal of the sadistic baseball bat wielder. There is currently no news of when Negan, as well as the other characters who are going to be in the second season, will be available for fans.

This isn’t the first cross-media entrant to Tekken 7, however. More in line with Tekken‘s universe was their cross-promotion with New Japan Pro Wrestling, where many of the Japanese wrestling promotion’s stars’ ring-gear was available to equip onto customizable characters. In addition to that, King, one of the more popular characters in the game, received a costume based on then IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada. So all in all, this sort of crossover is not out of the blue for Bandai Namco and Tekken.

This is definitely one of the more peculiar additions to Tekken 7, but it will be worthwhile to wait and see how it goes. Are you interested in letting Lucille loose in the King of the Iron Fist Tournamentt? Or would rather Negan stick with slaying zombies? Sound off in the comments below.
