New Bravely Default Game Teased by Square Enix

Bravely Default was one of the more critically praised 3DS-era RPGs. It was a successful title and made publisher Square Enix rethink their strategies concerning its JRPGs. Today, it is teasing a new entry into the franchise. This tease comes via the Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default Twitter accounts.

The first piece of the puzzle comes from artwork attached to a tweet from the official Octopath Traveler Twitter account celebrating the game’s one million units sold. In the artwork, the more recent game’s characters are posed in a shape that resembled the fairy, Airy, from Bravely Default.

In addition to this tweet, the official Japanese Twitter page for Bravely Default changed its name to “ブレイブリー◯◯◯◯◯” which translates to “Bravely ◯◯◯◯◯”. Therefore, again, teasing a new entry to the franchise. In addition to this, the account posted some art (which is now also the banner for the account) which depicts the shadow made from the Octopath Traveler characters, which again resembles a fairy.

The tweet itself celebrates Octopath Traveler‘s sales, but at the end asks fans to keep an eye out for the further work of Square Enix Business Division 11, which made the recent Switch JRPG. All this could mean one of two things: the first is a brand new sequel in the Bravely Default franchise made by Square Enix Business Division 11 or a Switch remake of the original game.

The latter of the two is more likely considering the number of circles in the official Twitter account’s name being the same amount as the number of letters in the franchise’s Japanese name. Either way, it will only be a matter of time before we find out what is happening.
