Human Head Studios has announced that their latest game Rune will be available on Steam Early Access at some point in September. The developer stated that they chose Early Access to gather “essential” player feedback and expect that it will stay on that service for about a year before moving to the actual Steam store.
The studio recently revealed this news on its blog and added some details on the game’s Steam page. It’s an open-world sandbox RPG set in a Viking Norse fantasy realm during Ragnarok, the end of days. The game also features optional online play including co-op and PvP, and brutal melee combat where players can actually use severed limbs as weapons. Yes, including their own, if they survive having one of their arms cut off.
If you don’t recognize the name Human Head, perhaps you’ll be familiar with the name Prey. They were developed the first 2006 Prey game for 2K and worked on the eagerly-anticipated Prey 2. Since Prey 2 was cancelled, Human Head has been working on Rune, a sequel/remake to one of their earlier games.
In addition to the release next month, anyone interested in giving the game a try can sign up for the beta test, which will take place this Saturday, August 18, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET. Don’t worry if you’re not available Saturday and want to try the game, since the studio says they have further beta tests planned before the game goes live. At the moment, Rune is only available on PC and you can read the system requirements below.
