Red Faction Guerrilla Switch icons have been found in the game files of the Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered PC version, it was revealed earlier today. After the recent announcement of Volition‘s Saints Row: The Third for the Nintendo Switch, it’s suspected that with Red Faction Guerrilla having been developed by the same studio that another announcement will be coming soon.
Red Faction Guerrilla is a cult classic, and many were excited to see an updated edition, Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, come to PC and consoles. After the recent port of Saints Row: The Third to the Nintendo Switch, there’s now reason to suspect that the revolutionary Mars-based sandbox game will be getting a similar treatment. Cut and unused video game content aggregators The Cutting Room Floor recently updated their entry on Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered to include icons for a Red Faction Guerrilla Switch edition that were found in the game’s files.
The controller icons are unmistakably Switch; complete with the staple Nintendo A-B-X-Y button layout, as well as ZL and ZR shoulder buttons. What almost ensures that the button layout is for the Switch, however, are the distinct Nintendo Switch D-Pad buttons. There’s no confirmation as to whether Red Faction Guerrilla Switch was an originally-planned port that fell through, or whether we may see an announcement soon — many suspect the latter, specifically on account of the fact that this wouldn’t be the first Volition game being ported to the console.
Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered was released in July, and much of the praise and the criticism has carried over. Critics enjoyed the game’s stellar destruction physics, but held issue with the sometimes unfair difficulty and the mediocre storyline. For many, however, it still stands up — and the updated graphics and 4K support is certainly appreciated by owners of the original game, who recieved the Re-Mars-tered edition for free. It’ll be interesting to see if anything comes from this discovery, and whether we’ll get a Red Faction Guerrilla Switch version anytime soon.
