Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase Summer 2018 Details

The Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase Summer 2018 has just finished several additions for the Nintendo Switch indie games library on the hybrid-portable console were announced. Highlights included ports of various indie hits such as Hyper Light Drifter and Towerfall, exclusives such as Bullet Age, and a whole slew of confirmations of release dates of various games.

The first indie game to be highlighted was the critical hit Hyper Light Drifter which will be coming to the console September 6. With this new port, the game will receive Switch exclusive content such as a new costume that helps players find secrets, new weapons, and a new mode called Tower Climb. Towerfall was then announced to be receiving a port to Nintendo’s console which will include all expansions released for the game, as well as console-exclusive characters Madeline and Badeline from Celeste. It will release on September 27.

Treasure Stack is a game that combines platforming with a hook shot and a match-three-puzzle game. It will have cross-platform play and will be released sometime this winter. Zarvot is a top-down, shooter action game where players control various cubes and fight through dungeons either together or against each other. The Nintendo Switch will get an exclusive asymmetrical multiplayer mode for the game where one player controls the “Joy-Bot” using the Joy-Cons’ motion controls to fight other players. The game will be coming out first on Nintendo Switch in October 2018.

The previously announced Mineko’s Night Market, a cat-themed farm simulator similar to Animal Crossing, was confirmed to be releasing first on the Switch in early 2019. Samurai Gunn 2, the sequel to 2013’s Samurai Gunn, was revealed during the stream. It will follow on in its predecessor’s footsteps with its tight platforming, shooting gameplay and 8-bit graphics. It will have a graphic novel attached exclusively to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. The game will release Early 2019, with no information regarding other platforms’ releases.

The next announcement was Bullet Age, which is a 2D post-apocalypse, co-operative, platforming action game that will be console-exclusive and will be released November 2018. The World Next Door was also announced to be coming to the platform and is a visual novel, real-time puzzle action game that will be released Early 2019 on the Nintendo console. Next to be revealed was LevelHead, a platforming and level creation game that can be played cooperatively on the couch. It will be coming out in November 2018.

Elsewhere, during Nintendo Switch Nindies Summer 2018 showcase was a reveal for King of the Hat, a smash-like fighting party game where players take control of various unique characters and try and steal each other’s hats. It will be coming to the console in early 2019. The next big reveal of the stream was that Untitled Goose Game will be coming to the portable-hybrid console. The game puts players in control of a goose who is trying to ruin everyone in the village’s day and will be coming out Early 2019.

The big reveal at the end of the stream was that Into the Breach, the mech-tactics game developed by the creators of FTL, is available on the Nintendo Switch today. However, there was also a sizzle reel of various indie games coming to the console soon as well:

  • Desert Child will be arriving on the console December 2018
  • Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut will be released September 2018
  • Bastion will be coming to the Nintendo Switch September 13
  • The Messenger will be launching August 30
  • Undertale will be released September 18
  • Jackbox Party 5 will be coming to the Switch October 2018
  • Transistor will be released on the console November 2018
  • Dragon: Marked for Death will be coming out December 2018
  • Light Fingers will be coming out on the Switch September 20
  • Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP will arrive on the console October 2018

Finally, near the end of the Nintendo Switch Nindies Summer Showcase 2018, it was announced that a dedicated channel for indie games will be available on the Nintendo Switch’s news section starting from today. You can watch the replay of the whole presentation here.
