thatgamecompany’s Journey Is Up For A Grammy

The Grammy Awards have revealed the nominees for the 55th annual award show recognizing the best of the best in the music industry. This year even throws a video game in contention for the Best Score Soundtrack award. That must be one of those awards they give out before the primetime celebrity-circle-jerk.

Composer Austin Wintory is up for the award for his work on thatgamecompany's Journey, competing with the soundtrack for The Artist, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, among others. It's hard to say if it'll actually win, but holy crap is the Journey soundtrack evocative of the game's mood, emotion, and general activity.

I thought Journey's music managed to be playful and mournful at the same time, so I certainly hope it wins. Even if it does, it won't be the first game soundtrack to win a Grammy. That honor goes to "Baba Yetu" of Civilization IV.
