NieR: Automata Novel Gets US Release Date, Fleshes Out Game’s Story

NieR: Automata US fans will get the chance to explore more of the game’s lore in a new novel. NieR: Automata: Long Story Short is the first of two books that delve into the game’s story and world, and will be released stateside on October 9. Viz Media made the announcement for the NieR: Automata novel on its official website on Friday, and it has priced the book at $14.99. The novel will be 256 pages in length, and no age range as yet been placed on it. NieR:Automata: Long Story Short is available to pre-order now at Amazon, Waterstones and Book Depository.

NieR: Automata: Long Story Short was already available in Japan, but it has now been translated into English. The book is written by the title’s director Yako Toro, with the help of manga writer Jun Eishima, and explains much of NieR: Automata’s backstory. It is thought that the book will act as an expansion of the game’s lore for those who played it, and as a starting point for people who want to eventually make their way through the title.

A second novel, called NieR:Automata: Short Story Long, is expected to be released at some point in 2019. It will include a number of short stories based in this universe, and is written by Toro and Jun Eishima. Like its predecessor, Short Story Long is already out in Japan and contains seven short stories. There has been no word if the Western version will have all of these stories present.

NieR: Automata is an action role-playing game that was released initially on PlayStation 4, in Japan, in February 2017. Ports of the game were released on the PS4 worldwide on March 7, with PC and Xbox versions coming on March 17 and June 26 respectively. It was the sequel to the 2010 video game Nier, which itself was a spin-off of the Drakengard series.
