An Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Switch version has been announced for Japan. It will be a “cloud version” of the game according to the Nintendo Direct presentation that was streamed in the country recently and will release alongside the other console versions of the game in the region.
This Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Switch port will not be the full game running on Nintendo’s hybrid-portable console. Rather, it will be streamed to the platform over the internet via cloud-based technology. Think PlayStation Now and you’re in the right ballpark. This suggests that the file size of the game will be rather small, but that you will need to have a strong internet connection to be able to play the title. This version of the game will most likely function in a similar vein to the Resident Evil 7 Cloud Version that was announced earlier this year. If the new Assassin’s Creed game runs in a similar manner then it is unlikely to come to the West.
This is because people have found the Switch cloud version of Resident Evil 7 difficult to play outside of Japan due to connection issues. You should also temper any expectations of the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Switch version coming to the west. Ubisoft commented to GameSpot that “At the moment, this is a limited release for the Japanese market.” However, Nintendo has released a trailer for this edition so you can see an estimation of what this port of the game would look like if it ever came to the west.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will be releasing on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in the West on October 5, 2018. It will take the historical franchise in a new direction, not only setting it in Ancient Greece but also including more action-RPG elements and a more involved story that can be shaped by the player’s choices.
