Resonance of Fate

Resonance of Fate PS4 and PC Rated In Germany

Game announcements can often be preceded by a rating. Oftentimes a rating can jump the gun on a reveal. It’s happened before, and it will happen again. This time, eagle-eyed internet trawlers have found that USK (German Classification Board) has given Resonance of Fate an age rating on both PS4 and PC.

Both the PS4 and PC versions of Resonance of Fate have been awarded a USK 16 rating, with a survey date of August 31, 2018. This is in line with the original Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game. Despite the age rating, there has been no word from Sega or Tri-Ace on any potential re-release, remake, or remaster of Resonance of Fate.

Tri-Ace is set to reveal new information regarding an unknown game at the Tokyo Game Show 2018. This will be done through a Dengeki livestream. According to the YouTube page for the livestream, it will go live on September 20, 2018. Whether or not Tri-Ace has a Resonance of Fate remaster to announce will have to wait until the company’s livestream begins.

Resonance of Fate originally released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2010. Critics praised the game’s vibrant combat but bemoaned its length and poor storytelling. It garnered an average 72 rating (for PS3) on aggregate site Metacritic. Our review, however, was far less forgiving. We labeled it as “violently unruly and complex in battle systems and structure… Resonance of Fate exudes punishment in spades.”

If we do see a remaster of the game, it will join the ranks of the likes of Final Fantasy 7, 9, 10, 10-2, and 12, which were all confirmed for Switch during the Nintendo Direct last night as modern re-releases of classic JRPGs. Sega, too, has been on a mission to remake its classic games. The likes of Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 have both recently released and more are on the way.
