Just last month, Ragnar Tørnquist announced that he and his team at Red Thread Games were starting work on a brand-new entry in his popular adventure series, The Longest Journey.
In an interview with Polygon, Tørnquist explained how Dreamfall Chapters will provide an experience that caters to the hardcore adventure fan while fixing a number of issues that plagued the earlier games, namely combat. "A lot of the combat [in Dreamfall] was awful…In general, I wasn't happy with the controls in Dreamfall. It felt clunky, particularly on the PC. That's something we're fixing.” The game will also feature three playable characters.
Instead of releasing the game in bite-sized episodes, Chapters will launch in more substantial chunks that Tørnquist is calling "books", but don't worry, if you're a fan of traditional adventure games, you'll feel right at home with Dreamfall Chapters. “We're making Chapters for fans of The Longest Journey and Dreamfall for fans of story-driven games and adventures, for PC gamers. That's really not the best pitch to a publisher — but it is the best pitch to our core audience," he explained.
Could we see a resurgence of traditional adventure games? I sure hope so!
