Dirt Rally 2 has been revealed by Codemasters on Twitter. A sequel to Dirt Rally has been the subject of speculation for quite some time, though now an official Dirt Rally 2 release date has been revealed. The official Dirt Rally Twitter account posted a cryptic tweet reading “2.0” earlier this week, though now we have received the first trailer and gameplay for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Dirt Rally 2 Locations and Setting – Is it Open World?
The racing sequel will take players through real-life locations in New Zealand, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Australia, and the USA. Your co-driver will remain your best friend, guiding you through each track as you careen your way to victory.
It will feature new visual and gameplay improvements, including an overhauled handling system, tire choice, and surface deformation. This should ensure that tracks will change as you race through them. Eight official circuits from the FIA Rallycross championship will be included, while a single-player and online competitive multiplayer offerings will be included.
It doesn’t look like Dirt Rally 2 will be an open world rally game, with it using a bunch of licensed tracks instead. Still, with the new surface deformation techniques, it should be every bit as exciting as the real thing.
The Road to Dirt Rally 2
Dirt Rally released on PC to critical acclaim back in 2015, before eventually receiving a PS4 and Xbox One release in 2016. Dirt Rally 2 was seemingly teased earlier this month, when a fake pizza website popped up featuring various Easter eggs and in-jokes related to the Codemasters community (via GTPlanet). The website has since been taken offline, but not before being widely shared online by Dirt fans.
The tease even featured a nod to a ‘Head Chef Colin Solberg,’ a combination of the late Colin McRae and WRC champion Peter Solberg. Colin McRae’s name previously led the rally franchise before it became known as Dirt, while Solberg recently tweeted that he had visited the Codemasters headquarters. Solberg also tweeted “2.0” following the Dirt account’s tweet, indicating that he will be involved in Dirt Rally 2 in some capacity:

The FIA World Rallycross Championship account also followed suit with a tweet of its own:
