Spider-Man: Far from Home Villain Mysterio Reportedly Confirmed in Leaked Images

Spider-Man: Far from Home villain Mysterio has been reportedly confirmed by leaked on-set images. The character, who is set to be played by Jake Gyllenhaal, was snapped during a bit of downtime on the film’s production. The photographs show Gyllenhaal in Mysterio’s famous costume–minus his helmet–in between scenes on location in Liberec, the Czech Republic over the weekend.

The image was posted by Twitter user Martin Knap, and showed Gyllenhall deep in conversation with two crew members. Knap also took to the social media website to post a video of Gyllenhall facing off against Spider-Man, who will be played by Tom Holland once more. The footage shows Mysterio kneeling on the floor, with Spider-Man looking on, as presumably the FBI or MI5 turn up. The camera then pans around the set itself, and shows that the supposed battle takes place at a fair ground. The video reveals a number of objects on fire, with some debris lying around from earlier on in the fight.

Spider-Man: Far from Home is the follow up to Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was released in July 2017. The sequel sees Holland’s Spider-Man – and alter ego Peter Parker – travel to Europe for a much needed vacation, particularly after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. Filming has already taken place in London too, but it is unknown what other locations have been used to film the movie.

Holland and Gyllenhall are joined in Spider-Man: Far from Home by fellow MCU characters Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Aunt May (Maris Tomei), Zendaya (MJ), and Jacob Batalon (Ned). Michael Keaton, who played the villainous Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming, is also thought to have a cameo in the film. Spider-Man: Far from Home is due to be released on July 21, 2019, and kick off Phase Four of the MCU.
