Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Opening Weekend Sales

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Opening Weekend Sales Exceed Half a Billion

Activision and Treyarch‘s latest title is dominating the world, with Call of Duty Black Ops 4 opening weekend sales confirmed to have exceeded half a billion dollars. In its first three days of release, it managed to accumulate more than $500 million, breaking several records for the franchise on current generation consoles, which includes the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The franchise records broken by Black Ops 4 include for most combined players, average hours per player, and the total number of hours played. According to the press release, the total number of Black Ops 4 players across its three playable modes for the first three days surpassed that of 2017’s Call of Duty WW2 and 2015’s Call of Duty Black Ops 3 for the same period of time.

Besides that, the record-breaking Call of Duty Black Ops 4 opening weekend sales also guaranteed massive viewership on Twitch. In fact, it managed to gain the highest level of viewership for the launch weekend of any Call of Duty title ever released. Earlier this week, Activision had already announced that Black Ops 4 had the “biggest day one digital release” in the history of the company, despite the fact that physical sales of the game have actually decreased compared to its predecessor, Black Ops 3.

The incredible Call of Duty Black Ops 4 opening weekend sales might not be so surprising, considering that it debuted at the top of game sales charts in many countries. In Japan, Black Ops 4 even experienced the franchise’s best launch of any Call of Duty game from the past few years, selling a whopping 228,775 in its first week.

Black Ops 4 is off to a blockbuster start,” said Call of Duty EVP and GM Rob Kostich. “Our player counts and hours played are up year over year, our viewership on Twitch has set new standards and is showing just how fun Blackout is to play and to watch, and the weekend results yet again put Call of Duty at that highest tier of entertainment.”
