Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Announced, Features Sliding Camera

The Chinese electronics company has announced their newest flagship phone, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. Unlike many smartphones on the market, this device will not feature any kind of notch. This is because the camera slides out from the rear end of the device, and when not in use is hidden.

The sliding camera on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, according to the company, will not use any motors. Instead, it will be similar to older phones, where the user physically moves the slider to use the front-facing camera. Because of this feature, the device can boast a screen-to-body ratio of 93.4 percent. The screen itself will be a 6.4 inch OLED, 1080p display. Cameras included on the device will be a 12-megapixel wide angle and telephoto cameras on the rear. While on the front, there will be a 24-megapixel selfie camera, with a two-megapixel sensor as well. It will also feature a fingerprint sensor on the back.

The device will take advantage of the Snapdragon 845 processor. As for its memory, the device breaks conventions by offering a 10 GB of RAM option. Xiaomi will also bundle the Mi Mix 3 with a 10 W wireless charger. Prices for the device will start at around $475 for the 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage model. To get 10 GB of RAM on your device, you will need to purchase the “Forbidden City Palace Museum” special edition variant. This will come with 256 GB of storage and will cost roughly $720. A 5G version of the device is set to release in Europe next year.

The device is set to release in China on November 1, 2018. The prices above are conversions of Yuan to USD, so may not reflect the actual price of the device in the US. Currently, there is no announcement of any release outside of the Chinese market. However, the Mi Mix 2 is available unlocked from various retailers, so there is a chance that the new device will be available in the west.
