Undertale Creator Reveals Free Game Deltarune

Undertale creator Toby Fox has released a mysterious free game titled Deltarune. Following speculation that Undertale 2 would be revealed today, the account posted out a link to the official Deltarune site, which comes with a warning: “Welcome. Please read these final warnings. Then, take it in your hands.”

The game comes armed with a security warning for Windows users, which reads: “YOU ACCEPT EVERYTHING THAT WILL HAPPEN FROM NOW ON.” Players are “advised to refrain from discussion of the program for 24 hours.”

The mysterious game can be downloaded on DeltaRune.com, with it launching an app titled ‘SURVEY_PROGRAM.’ From there, players are asked to create “a vessel.” So far, so spooky.

The official Undertale Twitter account yesterday posted that an announcement would take place on Halloween. “IT IS NOT COMPLETE YET,” the account tweeted. “NO IT IS FAR FROM COMPLETE.”

The account later followed up on the announcement. “THANK YOU FOR WAITING SO LONG,” it tweeted. “AFTER ALL YOU AND I, WE HAVE BOTH BEEN WAITING SUCH A VERY LONG TIME.”

“SO TO BE HERE FINALLY ON THE VERGE OF CONNECTION,” it continued, “IS QUITE EXCITING … I LOOK FORWARD TO CREATING A NEW FUTURE WITH YOU.”

Undertale was released in 2015 and achieved an unexpected level of success. After crowdfunding over $50,000 in its $5,000 Kickstarter campaign, the RPG initially launched on PC before being ported to the PS4, PS Vita, and the Nintendo Switch. Fox previously stated that additional funds generated by the campaign would potentially go into developing a sequel, though this isn’t quite the Undertale 2 we expected.

Fox discouraging players from talking about Deltarune likely won’t dissuade them, and we’ll be sure to share our thoughts on whatever this little oddity is later in the day. Is it a full, free game, or a potential tease for a proper Undertale sequel? Looks like we’ll have to play it in order to find out!
