Monster Hunter Movie First Images Revealed

The first images of the Monster Hunter movie have been revealed. Judging by these first images, the film seems to be vastly different from its source material.

Star of the film Milla Jovovich shared images from the movie set on her Instagram page a few days ago.

One of the images shows characters in military-style outfits posed in front of a modern day military tank. This is different than in the games, which is much more fantasy-based.

Another picture has Jovovich’s character wielding a Slinger. This is the tool used in the most recent game, Monster Hunter World.

Capcom’s explanation of the movie’s plot talks about “two heroes who come from different worlds to defeat a shared danger, the powerful, deadly and magnificent monsters that inhabit the land.” If the movie features any more changes from its source material, this wouldn’t be surprising. Paul W.S. Anderson, Monster Hunter’s director, also was the director for the Resident Evil movie franchise. That was another Capcom film franchise that wasn’t faithful to the source material. He directed the first Resident Evil movie as well as the final three. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the latest, and likely last movie of that franchise, releasing back in 2016.

Monster Hunter World came out for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One back on January 26 of this year. The Windows version came a bit later in August. Game Revolution’s Jason Faulkner at the time gave World a 4.5/5, saying that World is “the Monster Hunter game that will finally solidify the series in the West in the way it has been in Japan for over a decade and is a terrific experience from start to finish.”

There is no release date for the upcoming Monster Hunter movie, which will be distributed by Screen Gems. Other stars in the film beside Jovovich include Tony Jaa, T.I., Megan Good, Ron Perlman and Diego Boneta.
