Netflix Castlevania Producer Announces Devil May Cry TV Show

Netflix Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar is working on an animated Devil May Cry TV show. The Devil May Cry TV show is set in the same “multiverse” as the Castlevania show Shankar produces. The show is still early in development and has no date attached for release.

Shankar announced the new TV series in an exclusive interview with IGN. He didn’t release any specifics about the it, to the point where it’s also unclear where the show will be airing. Shankar revealed that the show “will join Castlevania in what we’re now calling the bootleg multiverse.” He also said that he acquired the rights from Capcom himself, which should allow him more creative freedom with the project.

Shankar tweeted a picture of himself dressed like Devil May Cry‘s Dante. His outfit looks most like the upcoming Devil May Cry 5‘s rendition of Dante, with a dark red leather jacket and Dante’s pendant on full display.

The announcement comes after rumors that Shankar was working on a Legend of Zelda TV series. He didn’t discredit the idea that he was working on other projects, but didn’t confirm or deny the rumors. The Devil May Cry announcement comes hot on the heels of Castlevania season 2, which released in late October on Netflix. It has already been greenlit for a third season.

Shankar said the Castlevania series “really over-performed. It did crazy well. We immediately got greenlit for season 3.” He then attributed the success of that series to his ability to develop a Devil May Cry TV show.

Shankar is the executive producer of the Castlevania Netflix show, and had produced a number of short films revolving around known characters and IP. Shankar’s “bootleg universe” films include The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, Venom: Truth in Journalism, Power/Rangers, along with several others. It’s unclear if his “bootleg universe” short films and the newly minted “bootleg multiverse” are related.
