Did the New Xbox Already Arrive At EA?

Phew! It's really starting to heat up here! No, seriously, it's hot outside. We're well into Spring and even further into Summer. That means everyday brings us closer to E3 2011. If you're into games, you already know that there's a ton of buzz surrounding the industry's biggest conference. Today's big rumor is that Microsoft have already locked down the hardware specs for the Xbox 360's successor. Crazy!

The Xbox 720, Xbox 3, Nextbox… whatever you want to call it, the rumors are flying today as a source apparently outside of EA but in the know about a development house the publisher owns has spread the word that Microsoft's next generation console is already in developer hands.

This next generation Microsoft console will supposedly get a surprise E3 reveal, presumably in order to steal some light from Nintendo's own next-generation hardware. Develop writes:

EA developers are getting to grips with the tech to create first-generation software.

"Quite often when new consoles come around they're packaged into a PC shell, but actually what's inside is an entirely new console," a senior, trusted, well-placed source said.

Senior? Trusted? Well-placed? Sounds like this guy knows what he's talking about! Reign in that excitement. Microsoft and EA have obviously declined to comment on the rumor. Apparently, Develop's source doesn't even work for either company! How is this guy "in-the-know"?

You can bet that these rumors will get cleared up in the second week of June when Game Revolution head's to LA for E3 2011. We'll be sure to bring you the latest developments leading into and through gaming's biggest show.
