After collaborating with Sony earlier this year for a pair of modern sneakers, new retro PlayStation Nike sneakers based on the original console’s color scheme are set for release next week.
This release will be in the style of Nike’s PG 2.5x. The light gray color is very similar to the first PlayStation console, which was first released back in 1994. One of the sneaker’s tongues will have the PG logo on the front, while the other will sport the PlayStation logo.
In addition to the retro look, the sneakers will feature dual laces and velcro combo fasteners. Decorated on the shoes are the triangle, circle and cross buttons, which should be instantly familiar to any longtime PlayStation fan.
This isn’t the first time Nike and Sony have collaborated together. Back in February, Nike put out the PG-2 PlayStation Colorway. This was a more modern representation of the PlayStation brand, with a black motif that could light up at a press of a button.
The PG brand, meanwhile, is named after Oklahoma City Thunder basketball player Paul George.
“As a kid, I’d make sketches of what I wanted my Nike shoes to look like because it’s something I’ve always wanted to be a part of,” George wrote in a blog post regarding the first collaboration. “Now I have the opportunity to make something very special and personal to me with the help of two of my favorite brands.”
This also isn’t the only retro-inspired PlayStation 1-era merchandise to come out in December. The PlayStation Classic, which will feature over 20 games including classic titles such as Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Super Puzzle Fighter 2 and Wild Arms is heading to store shelves on December 3.
The PG 2.5 x PlayStation Colorway will launch December 1 worldwide, just in time for Christmas. They will retail for around $110. Check out the announcement video below.
