Skyward Sword Switch Remake Isn’t Happening, Says Nintendo

Bad news for people who were getting excited following rumors of a Skyward Sword Switch remake. Nintendo has shut down the speculation, saying it has no plans for a reworked version of the Wii-exclusive Zelda title. The rumblings came after Eiji Aonuma alluded to a re-release of the game during a live concert featuring music from the Zelda series.

Speaking to Eurogamer, a Nintendo representative offered an abrupt response to the rumors.

“At this time we have no plans to release The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on Nintendo Switch,” the statement read.

It seems likely that even if Nintendo is working on such a project, the answer would always be “no” until the company was ready to announce it. There is still a little wiggle room in that statement, especially when you consider that Aonuma has worked on the majority of the Zelda series in one capacity or another. However, it is pretty unlikely he’s just trolling a bunch of Zelda fans. Nintendo hasn’t remarked on Aonuma’s comments during the concert.

Skyward Sword was a fairly strange installment for the series as it moved away from the traditional open world and instead used smaller player areas. And while it has a high average score, it is generally regarded as one of the weaker entries in the series.

Although Nintendo denied it, a Skyward Sword Switch port isn’t too outlandish of a proposition. Nintendo has re-released a ton of Zelda titles over the past few years. Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask came to the 3DS and Wind Waker and Twilight Princess both made eventually their way to the Wii U.

It wouldn’t be too radical a thought for Nintendo to return to a title that many players would have missed out on the first time around. At the moment, Nintendo has shut down any talk of a Skyward Sword remake, so it’s now a matter of wait and see for if the company is bluffing or not.
