Borderlands 2 VR Is A Timed PlayStation Exclusive, PC Release Possible

The second game in the Borderlands series is getting the virtual reality treatment next month with the aptly named Borderlands 2 VR. We knew it was already heading to PSVR, but now we know it’s a timed exclusive, making a PC release all the more possible.

PlayStation Europe released a new trailer yesterday taking a look at the new version of Borderlands 2. While footage plays, text at the bottom says that “Borderlands 2 VR is an exclusive to PSVR for a minimum of 5 months from launch.”  That means it’s possible that it could be released on the PC as well as other VR platforms by April 2019.

The new VR release is also confirmed to support teleportation and direct movement using the PlayStation Move or DualShock controllers.

Borderlands 2 was originally released for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and OS X back on September 18, 2012. It was later ported to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 under the Handsome Collection, which was released in March of 2015. The new VR version of the game was announced back in October.

At the time of release, GameRevolution’s Nicholas Tan gave the game a 4.5/5, saying “Though Borderlands 2 doesn’t shoot for the stars, it does more than enough to retain our most awesome recommendation. As long as you have several friends who can join your party, there’s no way you will be disappointed.”

While Borderlands 2 is the most recent game in the series, developer Gearbox has been talking about a future entry in the series. A couple of years ago, Gearbox CEO and president Randy Pitchford said that there will be another entry in the franchise, but it may not be called Borderlands 3.

Borderlands 2 VR will be released for the PS4 on December 14 and will retail for $49.99. Pre-ordering now will get you a dynamic PlayStation theme.

Other VR releases for the PS4 next month include GUNGRAVE VR, Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight and Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight.
