The Halo TV series will feature a live-action Master Chief.

Halo TV Series Loses Director Rupert Wyatt

The Halo TV series has lost its director, Rupert Wyatt, following schedule conflicts. The live-action Showtime series was picked up for a 10-episode series in June with Wyatt directing multiple episodes. Microsoft originally unveiled the TV series in 2013.

Wyatt’s departure was announced by the Halo TV series showrunner Kyle Killen on Monday. Wyatt issued a statement on the project.

“It’s with great disappointment that changes to the production schedule of Halo prevent me from continuing in my role as a director on this series,” he said. “My time on Halo has been a creatively rich and rewarding experience with a phenomenal team of people. I now join the legion of fans out there, excited to see the finished series and wishing everyone involved the very best.”

Showtime announced that the Halo TV series had been officially picked up in June. At the time Killen and Wyatt were attached to the project as showrunner and director, respectively. The 10 episode live-action drama was going to see Wyatt direct several episodes and serve as an executive producer alongside Killen. Amblin Television alongside Showtime and Microsoft are producing the Halo series.

Wyatt has directed a number of Hollywood blockbuster movies, including 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and 2014’s The Gambler. Wyatt also directed the upcoming Captive State starring John Goodman and Vera Farmiga.

Kyle Killen, the Halo series showrunner, has written for a number of TV series over the past decade. Killen wrote and produced episodes of Mind Games, Awake, Lone Star, and wrote the movie Scenic Route.

The Halo TV series will feature Master Chief in a new story penned specifically for the series. The production team is working with people at Microsoft and 343 Industries to ensure the TV series keeps in line with the series canon. Showtime has yet to say when the Halo series will release, although production should be starting in early 2019.
